How to Handle Submissive Dog Urinating
Article written by Nancy Settecasi
Submissive dog urinating is entirely an involuntary response. Never scold your dog because he has no control over it and it will just make matters worse. It's like a cough or a sneeze. If its gonna happen, its gonna happen.
There are many situations that can cause submissive dog urinating. Among these are:
- When your dog is being reprimanded
- When you bend down to pet him
- Out of sheer excitement
- When approached by an intimating individual
- Shyness and lack of confidence
Avoid submissive dog urinating by making some small adjustments when approaching your dog.
- Instead of bending down in front of your dog to pet him, call him over while you are already bent at the knees to his level.
- Avoid the drama when greeting your dog. Do not speak in a high-pitched tone.
- When scolding your dog, speak in a firm tone of voice. Avoid yelling and screaming. Scaring him will only make him more timid.
- Build his confidence by constantly praising good behavior.
Submissive dog urinating may diminish as your dog gets older, but on the other hand, it could also stay with your dog throughout his lifetime. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure you'll love him unconditionally.
Of course, you should always rule out any medical conditions first by consulting your vet.
