Cleaning your Dog's Eyes

Article written by Nancy Settecasi

Dog eyes should be cleaned regularly. When cleaning your dog’s eyes, be sure to restrain him from being able to make any sudden jerks, which can result in puncturing the cornea or even blindness. You can try placing your dog’s head between your knees in order to keep him still. Anytime you find accumulation of eye mucus, it should be cleaned with a damp cloth. Cotton swabs can also be used. Then apply a small amount of vaseline on the hair on the inner corners of the dog's eye. This will keep your dog from developing stains in the corners of his eyes. If your dog already has stains, check your local pet supply store for a solution called Diamond Eye, which treats eye stains on dogs.
